One way is go install new operating system on the J drive then format the C drive, and then go merging it in with Disk Manager. Or you can use Linux as a boot up without installing, but I am no expert in Linux so I can't help you much there :?

It would be easier to boot from a different drive and repartition that way. There is a free piece of software called gparted that you can use to resize partitions.
Just remember to back up any important data first.

Can you give a list containing both the physical and logical drives in your system?
