I know this is a bit old but if you are a school student (like me) you can get your school to register on this website with Microsoft and it allows you to get 1 years free membership

I am getting into XNA, I have always attempted in C# and have failed.

As an update to people, XNA membership is $99 a year and if you're wanting to do Xbox Games development you'll need an Xbox harddrive and at least Silver membership.

If you're a school student and your school is registered you can get the membership free from DreamSpark.

If you're 14 years or older and studying full-time you can get an ISIC card which is a one off $25. Using this card will allow you to get free membership from Dreamspark.
