Learning to drive..er..ride
CodenStuff
Hi guys,

After years of thinking should I..shouldn't I? I have finally decided to learn how to drive. Well, actually learn how to ride a bike. NO, not a pedal bike!

I'm going to learn how to ride a motorbike, one with an engine and a horn :D

I know absolutely nothing about motorbikes or how to ride them but I'm going for it. I need something to wiz around on when I need to pop to the shops, nip in to town or just annoy the neighbours.

If you're in the UK I suggest you stay off the roads from now on because one day I may be behind you :wink;

This could also open up a new area in regards to coding as I could use my experiences and what I learn to possibly code some bike related software and apps. I'm looking forward to it.

Disaster? lol

Well I did my CBT. Unsure if this is standard in other parts of the world but in the UK it is basically Compulsory Basic Training which you must complete in order to learn to ride a bike by yourself on the roads. This was a one day event (took about 5 hours) during which I was taught how to start, balance, control and ride a scooter and once I did some basic riding around I was taken out on to the road. Yes, the actual road with cars and people.

Don't worry I didn't seriously injure anyone. Apart from the elderly bloke who stepped out in front of me for no good reason but we won't talk about that right now. It's till under police investigation. Joke. I'm joking, I didn't hurt a soul.

Anyways I passed it and have been free to ride my scooter for a couple of weeks and I got myself a used scooter, a SYM JET 4 125cc

It's in pretty good nick and with only 4000 miles on the clock it was a bargain at £200

Fully taxed and insured I've been out on the roads for a while with it and have to say I really enjoy my time out on the open roads, it is hard to describe how good it feels and the freedom you have riding around wherever and whenever you want. If you are old enough or approaching the legal age to ride then I recommend getting yourself a motorcycle/scooter of your very own.

I'm already sketching out some ideas for my next coding projects based around my experiences of riding around on my scooter so stay tuned as I will have some new projects out soon enough :)
