CPU Limit Exceeded
Knight Rider
Hey guys,

This is mainly directed to any server experts here.
About 30 - 40 mins ago, I started receiving "CPU Limit Exceeded" error on my forum.
I've researched this error, and there is no definitive answer to why this happens.
Is this a permanent thing, and will need to be removed by my host? Or will it expire on its own?

My host is: http://go2gamerguys.tk they host .tk domains only.

Any thoughts?

Best,

KR

Edit: This is the first time I've received this error

KITT: Forget my body, where is my Random Access or my graphics board? I can’t even play a round of Pac-Man in here.

I guess they have a CPU cap and you've exceeded it :/ I'm no proffesional at servers but try turning of any processes ran on the server that you don't need and restart it.

I don't have the privileges to restart the server.
And this is also the first time I've received this error.

Best,

Try turning off some stuff, do you know if there could be something that takes up a lot of CPU?

Re: CPU Limit Exceeded

currently, the only things installed on my forum are:
  • phpBB Forum - Main Forum
  • HESK - Help Desk Software
  • MyBB - For Testing MyBB and MyBB MODs
There's no scripts that are running permanently.
But, recently I got an email on my site's support email, notifying me of the error.
I replied asking what the individual was doing before it happened.
They said they were viewing the View Your Posts page, and repeatedly pressing F5 to refresh it.

Could that be the cause?

Yeah probably, small hosting got overloaded, ask the admins to give you a reboot and that should fix it

I have emailed them asking about this.
If this is permanent, and they have to restart it?
Or, if it will disappear on its own.

Like my first post said, I googled it, but there was no definitive answer.
Some said it's permanent, and you need the host to fix it.
Some said wait 12 hours, and it should be gone by itself

Best,

KR

Edit: FTP Access and my website emails still work though?

What host are you using?
the meaning of "CPU Limit Exceeded" is,
Code: Select all
For 'planet' servers that means you've filled up your allocated space and you will need to apply for more. On the CGI-BIN server, you have either reached 10Mb or 1000 files, which means you need to delete any unwanted files before you can continue uploading.
This is one reason i "HATE" free domain sites.
this google search producted a lot results on this issue. and 98% of them was a free hosting service. Just like your .tk proxy server host.

This qoute comes from : http://www.webhosting-box.com/hosting/c ... d-warning/
For the most part people only consider the amount of bandwidth and space that a website would actually need, while picking a shared web hosting plan. As your website gets more popular, CPU limit exceeded warning is generated by your web host. Your website almost always ends up removed or suspended from the server, once you receive such warning. It is an indication from the web host to declare that you have been using more than allotted. The options are to find a better hosting company or upgrade to a VPS plan from a shared web hosting plan.

so dont get mad when your website get removed or deleted.

I have a MyBB Board on my server, used for testing MyBB and its MODs.
I wonder if deleting that directory would help?

If the CPU Limit is Disk Usage this is my current disk usage in MB:

Disk Usage: 120.67 / 10000 MB

Edit: So, my website will end up being suspended and deleted from my host's servers?

it might, depending on what the cause of the error was. and only the sever IT guys will know what happened.
if i was you, i would backup all the data on the site. Files, Databases, everything and store it on your computer or a external drive. so when you do get a better host you can simply just upload the file and reinstall the databases from your backups.

that way you really dont loose anything if the host does delete your .tk domain.
