Well, I've seen a few topics where, when someone posts, maybe a few months after the last post, they are automatically accused of bumping followed by a waterfall of -reps.
What really interests me is what mandai had to say about this, and I find it to be true:
I think we should all think before we hit that little -rep button, and take time to consider what might be and what might not be a bump.
I understand, for instance, the punishment of someone posting useless comments, after a topic has been left untouched for so long. But I don't think there is ever, or should ever be a restriction to the time period within which a user can post bugs, errors, or ask for more details about a certain subject.
I would really like to hear your opinion about this, because I am sure, or actually, I know, I am not the only one to think this (thanks mandai
)
Sincerely,
-Comathi-

Which rule stops someone from asking a useful question?Indeed, why is it you cannot ask a question, however old the topic is. Is the question less valuable, or does it deserve less of an answer, because some member wasn't there when the topic was started, or because the issue was never resolved.
There should be nothing wrong with that.

Bumping
I think every site is different in regards to how they deal with 'bumping' but on here for me this is how I see it..
If a new or existing member posts in an old topic and leaves what I class as a completely pointless reply such as "Good", "I like it" etc then that is a bad bump because its brought the topic back to the top of the list for no reason what-so-ever which is basically spam.
If a new or existing member posts in an old topic and leaves a genuine reply for example if they need help understanding a solution someone posted in a help topic or require help on the same subject then thats fine and personally I dont class it as a 'bump'..nothing wrong with it.
I dont think people should give -reps for bumping unless it was completely pointless.
I know the topic and member you are referring too in this post and that member made a genuine reply to the topic but everyone else who replied after that complaining about their 'bump' were all pointless replys so infact the people complaining about his bumping are the real bumpers here lol.
So yes thats how I see it cooll;

Welcome to CodenStuff.com Learn Code, Love Code. Thank you for being a member of the community.
I think useless posts in general should be -repped. So that includes bumps that are useless.
But bumps that are worth posting, such as bug reports, ideas on how to improve upon the program, or questions about the program, should be allowed to be posted.
To be honest, I think reps should be moderated by select staff (perhaps a new group that moderates minor things on the forum, mini-mods?), and then assigned. This would keep unruly reps away.

I completely agree with you all ^^
But, I think the reputation system shouldn't be for bump -reps.
And if anyone wants to point out i have done that, well i know, i am sorry 8-)

We shall let the revolution begin.. the revolution for freedom, freedom against censorship. We shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender
The trouble with giving people a little bit of Power (ie: a Rep System) is that it will/Has become abused, now that may not be intentional, but lets look at some of the Issues associated with it..
-Reps for Bumping
-Reps for giving -Reps
-Reps for posting in the wrong Forum
-Reps for having a Bad Day
etc
etc
The list could go on and on with wonderful examples of -Reps given out by our Members..
I think a lot of Members on here just -Rep because they Can!
I have seen New Members getting -Repped for posting in a Forum, Now that would just P*ss me off if i was a new Member and i got derepped for being Active :(
As i have allways said "THINK BEFORE YOU POST" and that should apply to the rep system as well..
Happy Repping

Look, If you want to bump topic with "Thank you" "I needed this" "nice" Then +rep author. And if you need support then PM the author or make tutorial request if author is inactive..
