Looks really basic, but I haven't tested it, but I would like to suggest you to use a toolstrip so the user will be faster at clicking on some usual things like Bold or Italic etc... but still Keep the MenuStrip and have MenuStrip and ToolStrip.

Very basic i dunno why u call it CodePad... if it will be a developers notepad it would have syntax highlighting , language recognition...
