Well when people talk about computers or ask eachother "What type of computer have you got?" the usual response is either Windows or Mac because we all base our answer on the OS we use but although PC's and MAC's are both 'Computers' they are different.

I dont know the full tech story/history but from what I know basically PC's operate and use different hardware than Macs. Back in the early days all PCs used Intel CPUs where as Macs didnt they used power( something :? )..yes anyway lol the reason a lot of software made for windows wont run on mac (and vice-versa) is mainly because of the hardware architecture makes it incompatible and thats because PC's and Macs are not the same.

If you forget the technical jiberish and just look at PCs and Macs from the users point of view then the differences would be:

Mac = Perfect for multimedia because macs are fantastic and super fast when doing things like graphics, videos and music..it cant be beaten I dont think.

PC = Most common, more software available for it etc lol

Its been a while since I was near or used a Mac but I dont think theres much upgrade-ability to them like if you goto any computer shop almost all the hardware available is for PCs but we wont see much available for mac except external stuff maybe :?

Someone else may be able to explain a bit more so ill shut up and let them reply

Hey

Now you are talking my Language :)

Macs are mostly used in the Publishing World, as they can handle and open up 8 - 10 Gig (Yes i did say 8 - 10 Gig ) Documents wahooo; and have been used in business's for as long as i can remember as they are Stable and More reliable than a PC computer.

***Just an example = When i was in Publishing we used to create all B&Q's Instore Catalogues, and it was my job to setup the layouts and create the pages with Text,Pictures,Barcodes, this was all done on a 1 GHZ G4 Powermac with 1.5 gig ram and 2 X 80 GIg Hardrives. :) Now if i had the same spec on a Pc there is no way that i would be able to open a 8Gig Quark Document without the PC Crashing...

They were really built for ease of use, and they do work very, very well, The only drawback is the software that is available for Pc's might not be available for the Mac. But the new Macs with Leopard Operating System has BOOTCAMP built in so you can run windows and all its apps effortlessly...

Macs are more expensive as they are really a specialist market, and while you can buy a PC Laptop with say 3 gig of ram and 2 ghz speed for say £350.00, If you bought the same spec with a Mac it would probably cost £1000+

There are loads more to be said on the Mac v PC debate, but its all down to Choice and what you want to do it and how much money you want to spend..

Chris

since i really have a lot of money to spend
and i will most likely run BOOTCAMP because i do CPU intensive stuff

Mac's have a nice UI and are smooth, and cool.
If i had a chance to buy a mac, i would, even if its more expensive.

(Just IMO)
