Windows 8 - First Look

Hello,

The first official Windows 8 video from Microsoft is now on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p92QfWOw88I
The new UI (user interface) does look slick and smooth but im still not sold on the whole touch-screen PC idea, tablets and phones are OK for touch but not for the desktop. Can you see yourself sat at your computer leaning over and swiping your fingers all over your screen? for one thing your screen would become covered in finger prints VERY quickly and then theres the muscle stream you will start to feel after 10 minutes of having your arm held out/up in the air lol.

It seems Microsoft are concentrating most of the new features towards touch which just means fancy sliding windows and stuff which isnt going to be of much benefit to the desktop user (in my opinion). Now you will be able to control these touch features using the keyboard and mouse but this video doesnt show me anything to make me foam at the mouth just yet. So what new features will be available in Windows 8 for the non-touch users? ... we will have to wait and see when new information/videos appear.

First impressions for me is Windows 8 looks fantastic for tablets/phones but for the desktop its no good..not for me.

Let me know what your first impressions are of Windows 8 cooll;

Hmm, it look's unique.
But yeah I agree with Vikhedgehog but the last comment he said.
I want to try it out if it will be like this. But I don't like to program in a touch screen computer, how weird would that be :lol:

I like the UI, as it is nice, and sleek, but yeah I agree their going with the touch screen effect, which is good for smart phones, and tablet pc's, some desktops, and some laptops (that are tablet, laptop hybrids), but not for the average windows user who sits down, and is used to using a mouse. I like how it benefits both touch screen users, and desktop users. However the average user is gonna look at it, and get drawn away from all the touch screen effects, as to them it'll probably be like learning a new os imo.

As for me it's optional at this point. I like what they've done so far, but don't think I'll be getting it just yet, unless they do something that surprises me, or makes me go, "I WANT THAT!!!". Which isn't an easy task.

Yes I agree about the UI which is surprising for me because I dont usually like these new versions of windows lol. Im impressed that microsoft have finally found the car keys and are on the technology highway catching with the latest tech and I do like the touch UI but its for tablets/phones and thats it...dont get me wrong I love my desktop but I dont want to touch it up :lol: !!!.

Like mike said for desktop users the fancy touchtop will probably be a novelty and fun to play with for a day or two but quickly get boring and not used much. Im dying to find out whats new underneath the touchtop like new taskbar features, faster loading of files/games, more secure (HA!), does it boot up in less than a second...OR will they just make some tiny changes to Win7 with the touchscreen over the top of it to make it appear new :? ..hmm

Hopefully it doesn't cost a bazillion dollars(bazillion is a word?) and if there is an upgrade cd i might buy it, since you can use a mouse.
