Hey
Just saw this and thought i would share it, Just be carefull out there
If someone offers to sell you cheap gadgetry on the street, you'd be wise to question what you're actually buying and where it's come from.
At the very least you should probably check the Apple iPad you think you just snagged for £200 isn't really a bag of old potatoes.
And while we'd think this goes without saying, police in Yorkshire have just issued a warning after someone was conned out of their cash in what's being dubbed the iPotato scam.
Officers say a 31-year-old man was recently approached in Batley and offered an Apple iPad for just £200. When he said yes, the men drove to a nearby cash machine and he happily handed over his money.
However, it was only after the obviously reputable vendor had driven away that the gullible buyer decided to look in the supposedly iPad-containing laptop bag he'd been given.
That's when he discovered that rather than the Apple device he'd really been given a bag of potatoes. Oops.
PC Teresa McCarter of the Batley NPT told the Yorkshire Post: "It should be common sense to check that you are getting what you pay for but as a similar incident to this one in Birstall took place in the summer we are warning people to be wary of accepting deals that seem to be too good to be true."
The suspect is said to be a chubby white man in his 40s, with dark blonde hair and an Irish accent... and a sack full of potatoes.
So if you see him WATCH OUT..
Chris

Im amazed people still fall for this scam because ive seen it on The Real Hustle on BBC3 where they sell a laptop to some guy and the guy checks it out and has a play on it so it was a real laptop but after the guy paid for it they destracted him for a split second and replaced it. The guy thought he just got a bargain and the laptop was still there because he never saw it move but when he opened the laptop bag there was a plant of wood inside it instead lol.
I also remember another scam just a few years ago at christmas where a website was set up and selling Nintendo Wii consoles realy cheap but they wanted paying in cash and the way it worked was they delivered it to your house and you had to pay in cash on delivery so loads of people went for it because it was realy hard to get a Wii a few years ago and the price was great..anyway because most of the people buying them were buying them for christmas presents for the kids they got them and just wrapped them up and put them under the christmas tree thinking they just got a bargain and a great present for the kids but on christmas morning when the kids unwrapped their present and opened the Wii box all that was in it was a house brick. Sad :(
If I ever bought anything of someone on the street or wherever I would make sure it works and it never left my sight..infact I would probably hold and use the item while I paid for it so theres no chance in heck of them switching it.

Yeah it is amazing how some people are still getting ripped off by unscrupulous Conmen :(
I'm sure I've heard of similar incidents, it's not just stupid how people fall for it, but what's also stupid is why they scam people
