Hello Guys,
Since I'm about to sleep and don't have time so I'll keep it short. So the thing is I won a copy of Max in a contest which was held in my school. I already had the inspiration for 3D modeling but I never got the chance to try out 3DS Max cuz it was very costly. I used Google Sketchup for some days but then didn't felt that it was worth it. Now 2 weeks ago, my luck worked and I won the contest and finally got the chance to fulfill my desire. I want to learn Max. I want to start from the beginning as a beginner (obviously) and be very good at it. I think maybe mikethedj or hungryhound can help me out. You can give me a list of tuts or help me yourself.
Thanks.
(Seriously, I don't know what bullsh*t I have written and I also don't know if any of it makes sense. The only thing that I know is that I am sleepy. Don't mind if I said anything wrong or abused anyone)

Hey
Too be honest, You need to find your own Niche as to learning 3D Max, Its a huge program with huge potential and is only limited by your own imagination.
1. You need to think about what you are most passionate about ( in designing).
2. If you want to do charactor designer then its best to learn all you can about the Process of creating charactors.
3. Books/Books/Books are the Best way to Learn as you can easily go back and redo exercises within the books to gain the knowledge of a certain procedure. But let me just stress that 3D Max books are very Expensive and it costs a small fortune to Learn it, but if you want it that badly you will buy lots of books, I did and i have about 7 books at the moment
4. Youtube is also a great way to learn, as there are tons of videos relating to all manner of stuff to do with Max.
5. If you pick it all up it can be very rewarding, but also very frustrating, as nothing goes right all the time.
You will need a good computer with lots of Processing Power and as much RAM as you can buy/or your machine with hold..
Watch the Polygon count, and If it freezes while Rendering = well thats just life, So remember to SAVE YOUR WORK AS YOU GO
Most of all its all about trying things out and experimenting
Good Luck and I look forward to seeing some of your 3D when you have progressed.
Chris
ps: If you have the Full Paid for Version like me, you will see that there are lots of Tutorials on the Autodesk site, as well as beginner ones built in.

We shall let the revolution begin.. the revolution for freedom, freedom against censorship. We shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender
Trying things out on your own, you say? I'll try to do that. And I am not in the character business. I want to make objects, cars and buildings. I might want to do characters in the near future though.

Well trying things out and seeing what works is a good way to learn 3D Max, I have been dabbling with 3d Max for over 10 years and I have only scratched the surface as its a Fantastic Program with lots options for all manner of choices you make.
Lighting and Textures and getting it right to look real/or how you want is an Art in itself..
If I was starting out Learning Max, I would do all the Tutorials on the Autodesk site, Plus the ones Built in Max itself. Once you can recreate something without looking at the Tutorials, then you know you are on the right lines..
Its well worth sacrificing 2-3 years ( I kid you not) Learning Max, and just stick with Max all the time, so every minute you are living breathing 3D Max, thats if you wanna be good and if you are that good in the end, You could walk into any Design House and command top dollar for your Time
or Freelance yourself out, the world would be your oyster.... Go For It
