It's going to be my birthday soon and I want to get a something new and better.
My HP desktop is doing fine right now but I want a better one for gaming and programming.
Plus I also bought a HDMI cable and figured out my HP Pavilion doesn't have a slot for it -_-
Specs :
2GB of RAM
2.2GHz
X2 Dual Core
32 Bit
270 GB of Hard Drive
and that's about it I guess.
I kind of want a better desktop but not sure which.
I also want a netbook but they're too small and I hate the battery life
Laptops are good but again with the battery.
dunnno;
so what do you think i should get?
Laptop?
Net Book?
Desktop?
and which model should I get?

Have you considered upgrading the current system? You might be able to improve performance that way.
For a new PC it really depends what your budget is, you will always get better power for value in a desktop machine but you will lose the portability. I haven't heard of many powerful netbooks but they seem to be quite good on battery life. Laptops are probably somewhere in the middle.
Generally models that have a good (recent) dedicated video card and processor will be the best ones to go for.

For gaming and programming i would recommend getting a desktop they usually run games better than net books and laptops and with desktops you get a much larger screen, more usb ports and a nice big heavy tower lol but if you want to take the computer to work school or a friends house i think you should get a laptop.
I have a laptop 2.6GHz dual core cpu (thats underclocked) 4GB ram 640GB HD HiDef Screen 17.5 inches with hdmi vid card with 1GB onboard ram runs everything smoothly and well and its 3 years old oh almost forgot built in hidef tv tuner thats my programing and gameing pc i have a desktop hooked to my hidef tv and my son has a desktop and laptop and so dose my wife so im for a laptop as you can get one just as powerful as a desktop and you can take it with you
well if whoever is gonna get you this if they got enough money id say for a gaming computer, if you want a light laptop, get an Alienware M11x laptop. flat price is $799, but my step-dad wanted to see how good my laptop was so he got a world of warcraft trial and ran it on my laptop and it ran smooth. i have a $450 acer aspire 5532
specs are:
AMD Athion 64 processor tf-20(1.6GHz)
ATI Radeon HD3200 graphics up to 1408M HyperMemory
15.6" HD LCD

Acer Nplify 802.11b/g/Draft-N

Which one would you recommend Chris?Hey NoWayIn
If i was after a NEW Laptop I would pick one with at Least 4 gig of Ram and with a nice 18" Screen or Bigger ( if i could afford it at the time ) Or Depending on your Preference and HOW MUCH MONEY you have to spend, I would by a Mac 20-24" Laptop, That way you have the VERY BEST of both worlds as Leopard has BOOT CAMP which runs windows and all the apps that you might want to use with ease wahooo; wahooo;
But if getting a Mac Laptop is out of the Price range, Then get a Laptop with as much RAM and Proccessing Power and a Good Video Card as you can afford, I dont really know who is better in the Laptop stakes as i have had quite a few Laptops over the years, Acer,Sony Vio,HP to name a few..
Hope this helps
regards
Chris
