TFC quick start guide
CodenStuff
Team fortress classic - first time user quick start guide

This is for those of you got hold of TFC and want to start playing the game as quickly as possible.

First you need to go through the checklist and make sure youve completed everything:

1) Download TFC
2) Install TFC
3) Start TFC

Ok have you done that? lol

When you start TFC you will see this screen:

The most important thing to do before we can start playing is setting up the game and learning/changing the controls otherwise you will probably end up running all over the place like a complete nutcase and shooting yourself in the a** every 10 seconds.

So click OPTIONS and it will bring up this window:

Dont worry too much about the "Multiplayer" options for now and jump straight to the KEYBOARD tab.

Now scroll through all the keys and learn what they do and if you dont like the way some of them are set up then change them to your own and when your happy click the apply button.

Now once your happy with your control key setup lets move on to the video settings:

The game will probably start the first time in 'Software' rendering mode which makes the game fast but the graphics are rubbish change the "Renderer" option to OpenGL or D3D and then change the other options to whatever makes you happy lol. When the game first starts it will probably start in full screen mode which is great if you like that but if you want to be able to browse codenstuff or keep an eye on MSN etc while playing then the best thing to do is tick the "Run in a window" box and adjust the resolution option to your preferred window size ...and click APPLY.

The other tabs in the options screen are for setting up your sound and microphone and mouse sensitivity which are easy enough to do so I wont go through all those. When your happy with all your options click APPLY and OK.

Playing your first game

Now we have our game set up how we like it its time to join a server and get playing so click the SERVERS button:
Image

You will be presented with this screen and a grand list of servers will start to fill the list:

Now from here all you have to do is double-click any server that takes your fancy and within a few seconds you will be enjoying your first round of TFC.

The favorites tab is very important because it lets you save your favorite servers so you can get to them quickly the next time you play and its also important for adding private servers.

When you want to add a server to your favorites like Scotties server for example then click the "Add a server" button and a new window will pop up. Enter the servers IP or URL into the box and click "Add this address to favorites" button and it will be added to your list.

If you fancy playing with yourself (as you do lol) then you can create your own local server by clicking "Create Server" on the start screen then selecting a map to play on and click "Start". This is good for practicing with each of the available player classes and learning how to use them and to also learn the layout of the maps.

If you get tired of playing on your own and want to practice your skills with other players then choose a server with only a couple of players on so you dont get lost in the mayhem..servers with 26+ players is not very good for newbs unless you really want to just dive rite in :)

So you are now all set and ready to go!

How to change your in-game nickname
You need to enter console which can be accessed by pressing the ¬ Key which hopefully is next to the 1 key at the top of your keyboard..thats where mine is :?

Then in the console you type name followed by whatever you want your nickname to be for example if I wanted to be known as Tiny Tim I would type:

name Tiny Tim

Then press the enter key and your name is changed :D.

See you on the other side cooll;
