Hey Everybody
Hello new members say hi and tell us a little about yourself. Everyone is made welcome here.
Hey all! Just thought I would post my intro... I just registered yesterday. I have been programming in VB.net since VB 2008, but really have a limited understanding. I have been programming since about 2006 (I am not counting HTML and Javascript, which would make that 11 years, lol).
I first started OOP with python, and actually quite like it, though I have been working on moving away from interpreted languages (I still use Python a lot for Linux development) and have lately been studying C++. I seem to learn the fastest by diving right in to the heavy stuff, and googling anything I need to know. So I don't really ask for a lot of help, learning by myself helps the most for me, though I might occasionally try to get you to do all the work for me (just kidding).
I love old operating systems (and XX-DOS, Mac OS 9 and earlier, OS/2) and I love *nix/BSD. I must admit that I often search for ways to make windows look super old.... (such as Mac OS 8/9 or GEM style themes). My current machine is set up as a dual boot with Windows XP and freeDOS, but that is never permanent. I change my operating systems like
my mother-in-law changes religions (which is a lot, let me tell you) lmao.
I use freeDOS for Qbasic programming (yes, I admit I have a little fantasy of creating a modern DOS based OS) but mostly for my own use/enjoyment. I also program in Dark Basic Pro (though honestly it is not very much), MS SmallBasic (it is actually kind of 'cute' and it's pretty fun, if not entirely inefficient.
I have tried and tried to teach myself Java, but I can never get myself to stick with it. Something about it just doesn't click for me.
I am an amateur graphic designer wannabe (compare that to an actual graphics designer wanna be). I use Gimp mostly, and try to use open source as much as I can (I guess that is my linux roots showing). I am always in constant search of new development tools, so if you know of any, feel free to PM me.
One of the most important things about me (and some might say the most boring) is the fact that I actually only have one hobby. Learning. I think I have some subconscious goal to learn everything that I do not know. I study languages (both human and computer) like they are going out of style, I have studied a little bit about biology, psychology, anthropology (something I quite enjoy), gardening, language creation (no, I have not yet made my own language, lol) pottery, and music. I'm not saying those were academic studies, rather just self imposed studies that for some reason or another I decided I could not live with out knowing something about.
I am always willing and eager to learn, so anything you are willing to share, feel free!

Hello samideano, Welcome to codenstuff, I hope you'll learn programming here in the best way than any other website. Merry Christmas!
Thanks Usman, Merry Christmas to you as well! I love the ability to read the source code here! I can read source code like a novel, I love it, and it is awesome to not have to download any files just to learn about the ways other people implement various ideas.
Wow samideano from reading your introduction you sound like the smartest person here ( no offence everyone  ). I love that you are interested in the old skool OS's because I love them aswell and to be honest they run better than our modern day ones if you ask me.
I bet you could teach us all a thing or two with all the programming languages you know and I hope we can help you aswell.

Welcome to CodenStuff.com Learn Code, Love Code. Thank you for being a member of the community.
Woa, that's a really long ehm introduction lol :P But I have the same interest to try make a DOS based OS! I have been trying to figure it out, but never managed, and so I have just made Virtual OS's , it's called WeedOS(And no I don't smoke weed...), but the name how I got it is really funny xD Though I am not going to say it but All I want to do is to Welcome you to the website! and have a grate Christmas!
Edit: Oh and you can see it by using the Search feature on the site and search for "WeedOS" ;)

Welcome to this website , i hope you will extend your knowledge by reading this forums ! The cool thing about this website is that everything is random... So you'll always find something new (unline cheatengine(for example) its not all about the same thing)
Thanks guys.... Although I must contest, just because I enjoy learning does not make me smart. After 12 years of primary school if you ask me to take a math test I tremble in fear! When it comes to math in a programming environment, it comes to me fine. But give me the same problem in an academic environment and I can't make sense of it, lol.
My experience in python is only what I would call beginner. I have not made many GUI apps, mostly console (I do prefer linux so I guess it isn't so bad). In fact, what made me fall in love with .NET was the ease of design it gave me for UI development.
There is a project called 'DosCore' not sure how active it is, but they seem to have made some decent progress at modernizing DOS. They based it off of FreeDOS, and the GUI looks pretty good. I could never get it to install in VBox though, windows or *nix.
I am afraid I have nothing to teach you guys except for the very basics of programming in languages other than VB.net, and my knowledge of VB.net is only what I have figured out because of their 'intellisense' like code completion feature and trial and error I guess. I have most likely picked up some bad habits.
Well, here I go again with another long post. I tend to do that....
Take care and enjoy your xmas (+ plural).
