Hey Everybody

Hey all! Just thought I would post my intro... I just registered yesterday. I have been programming in VB.net since VB 2008, but really have a limited understanding. I have been programming since about 2006 (I am not counting HTML and Javascript, which would make that 11 years, lol).
I first started OOP with python, and actually quite like it, though I have been working on moving away from interpreted languages (I still use Python a lot for Linux development) and have lately been studying C++. I seem to learn the fastest by diving right in to the heavy stuff, and googling anything I need to know. So I don't really ask for a lot of help, learning by myself helps the most for me, though I might occasionally try to get you to do all the work for me (just kidding).
I love old operating systems (and XX-DOS, Mac OS 9 and earlier, OS/2) and I love *nix/BSD. I must admit that I often search for ways to make windows look super old.... (such as Mac OS 8/9 or GEM style themes). My current machine is set up as a dual boot with Windows XP and freeDOS, but that is never permanent. I change my operating systems like
my mother-in-law changes religions (which is a lot, let me tell you) lmao.
I use freeDOS for Qbasic programming (yes, I admit I have a little fantasy of creating a modern DOS based OS) but mostly for my own use/enjoyment. I also program in Dark Basic Pro (though honestly it is not very much), MS SmallBasic (it is actually kind of 'cute' and it's pretty fun, if not entirely inefficient.
I have tried and tried to teach myself Java, but I can never get myself to stick with it. Something about it just doesn't click for me.
I am an amateur graphic designer wannabe (compare that to an actual graphics designer wanna be). I use Gimp mostly, and try to use open source as much as I can (I guess that is my linux roots showing). I am always in constant search of new development tools, so if you know of any, feel free to PM me.
One of the most important things about me (and some might say the most boring) is the fact that I actually only have one hobby. Learning. I think I have some subconscious goal to learn everything that I do not know. I study languages (both human and computer) like they are going out of style, I have studied a little bit about biology, psychology, anthropology (something I quite enjoy), gardening, language creation (no, I have not yet made my own language, lol) pottery, and music. I'm not saying those were academic studies, rather just self imposed studies that for some reason or another I decided I could not live with out knowing something about.
I am always willing and eager to learn, so anything you are willing to share, feel free!
