I have an old 1GB IDE Hard Drive, and a 40GB that's on the edge of dieing. (Shows in Safely Remove Hardware when connected via USB, but can't access it. Plus when I shake it I hear a rattle. So I'm gonna try, and save the hard drive, if I can't well I can make it into a grinder, or sander)
Anyway does anyone have any ideas for what I can use this for. I back all my data on my 500GB external seagate hard drive. So my plans were to install Linux on the 40gb, but we already know what's up with that. However what can I do with the 1GB hard drive, any ideas, besides backing up data?
NOTE: I tried ReadyBoost, and it shows me, "This device does not have the required performance characteristics for use in speeding up your system."

Maybe a clock. I've seen people make clocks with old harddrives and LEDs. Just search it on YouTube, you'll get tons of results ;)
