I tried to install ubuntu on a separate partition (which is on the same harddisk as my Windows partition) and when I boot now it says
Multiple active partitionsI have no CD/USB stick to boot from either, so is it possible to fix this in the boot menu?

No bootable device - insert boot disk and press any key

If you have nothing to boot from (windows cd etc) then try the boot menu options F8 or something. Ive never encountered that error but because you have nothing to boot from im not entirely sure what you can do :? lol

i had a similar probelm a while back i didnt know how to fix it gave it to my dad and he then explained to me apparently from windows vista on they have moddified the bios soo it is protected to stop some expliot for windows or something that was happening anyway to fix it he got a copy of an older bios and put that on there then removed the partition and reformated to drive i dont know how but that is what he done if you would like to try this just PM me ill see if he willing to talk you thourhg it
This does not sound like a BIOS issue.
You would need to turn off the active flag on one of the partitions to allow the bootloader to continue.
You will need to boot from a different device to do this.
You could use the fdisk command to toggle the bootable flag.

It's not a BIOS issue, it happened because I installed ubuntu next to windows, on a separate partition, but on the same harddrive. I'll install Linux to my cameras SD card and boot from there.

Okay, then It might be that 'active partition' flag. My dads computer has restrictions because it is from his job so I can't use any .iso to SD/USB program so ill just have to wait till tomorrow.
